Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy:
Introductory Workshop for
Mental Health Professionals

This workshop will be an experiential and didactic presentation of the basics of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP). It is designed for professionals pursuing EFP as a career speciality, or those interested in obtaining CEUs in an atypical environment. The workshop will include reviewing material from Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy: A Clinical Handbook as well as demonstrations of clinically relevant equine activities. No horse experience is necessary. Appropriate (protective, closed-toe) shoes required and barn-appropriate clothing suggested.

Space is limited to the first 14 paid registrants.

Objectives

Participants will gain a basic understanding of:
  • The rationale for including horses as therapeutic partners
  • The psychodynamics of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy
  • Professional issues related to the practice of EFP
  • Ethical considerations inherent in EFP

Accreditation

Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy: Introductory Workshop for Mental Health Professionals is approved for seven hours of continuing education through Florida Psychological Association. Florida Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Florida Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

American Psychological Association is approved to sponsor continuing education for Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling.

Florida Psychological Association reports continuing education for Florida psychologists directly to CE Broker. If you hold additional, non-psychological licenses, you will need to self-report the continuing education to CE Broker.
Marilyn Sokolof
PRESENTER:

Marilyn Sokolof, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Gainesville, Florida. She is a Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Certified Equine Specialist. She has provided equine-facilitated psychotherapy for 14 years, and is Clinical Director of HorseMpower Inc. She is past president of the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association, is a co-instructor for the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Equine Specialist Training Workshop, sits on the Scientific Review Committee for Horses in Education and Therapy International, and is a member of the APA Division 17 Human-Animal Interaction section. She has authored articles and book chapters and presented at professional psychology and equine conferences.
